Back in 1969 you could order a Chevy Camaro with a mighty 396 big block, or even a monster 427 if you knew how. But could you afford to drive it?

The original owner of this 1969 Camaro called this his “insurance special.” Muscle cars in the late 1960s were becoming huge liabilities to insurance companies, and performance machines over 350ci were penalized with huge premiums. This Camaro was optioned with the highest performance equipment that would not incur the wrath of the insurance man.

Today this Camaro wears mostly original Rallye Green paint. Power comes from the original LM1 350ci V8 with a four-barrel carburetor, rated at 255hp, paired with a Hurst-shifted four-speed manual transmission and a 12-bolt rear end with 3.31 gears and multi-leaf rear springs.

Inside, the car has a Houndstooth interior, factory AM/FM Blue Light Stereo radio, power steering, and a space-saver spare. The original dealer added the factory air induction hood, front and rear spoilers, and SS wheels. The original factory smog equipment is included. Before acquisition by Dave Neuman, this Camaro spent many years in arid Wyoming.

This 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Sport Coupe is now offered at no reserve by the seller on behalf of its current owner with a clean Wisconsin title.

Additional Information

According to the current owner, the 79,514 miles currently indicated on the odometer is believed to be correct based on previous title and registration records included in the sale, however total original mileage cannot be guaranteed as records do not exist back to new.

The selling broker states, “Mechanically, it is the nicest Camaro we have driven. No chatter, rattles, smooth shifting, no lifter tick, just an amazing time capsule. Note the tires are older and should be replaced just due to age and an abundance of caution. It has also been stored for a number of years and should probably be safety checked prior to street use.

“Cosmetically, the original paint is checking but hanging in there. The door jambs and door corners are outstanding, as are the subframe and floor pans. Once small rust spot we found (see photo) that we would leave or blend as they are only original once.

“Due to the age and nature of collector automobiles, we cannot guarantee that every vehicle function will work as it originally did when the vehicle was new. These components are typically 30-60 years old or more and may need attention and service.

“In addition, many of our vehicles are from estates and have been stored and not driven. When vehicles sit for periods of time or once they are driven, issues can arise without warning.

“Due to age, all vehicles are sold strictly as-is without warranty or set aside. Pre-purchase inspections are encouraged and welcome while the auction is running.”

THIS AUCTION ENDS ON TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 03 AT 1:20 PM CDT
